Captain: - The highest authority on the ship.
Quartermaster: - Second in command, responsible for discipline, dividing plunder, and addressing crew grievances.
Chieftain: (leadership support) - Leader of a clan or a subgroup within the larger group.
Warlord: (central leadership) - The leader of the entire group. A military leader with control over a territory, especially one who gains power through conflict.
Knight: (elite defense) - Elite fighters providing defense and enforcing orders. In medieval Europe, a mounted warrior of noble birth.
Paladin: (honored, versatile warriors) - Renowned warriors known for leadership in battles. A knight renowned for heroism and chivalry.
Ranger: (territorial surveillance and defense / extended reconnaissance) - Scouts and protectors of the group's territory. Historically used for archers or wardens patrolling borders; could apply to those protecting or patrolling specific areas. Scouts who monitor the periphery and gather intelligence. A rider positioned ahead of or beside the main body of troops to scout or guard.
Marauder: (resource acquisition) - Raiding parties responsible for acquiring resources. Similar to a bandit, but often implies more violent raiding, especially in a military context.
Raider: (independent resource acquisition) - Similar to marauders but might operate more independently. A person or group that conducts raids, typically for plunder or to attack enemies.
Master Gunner: - A specialist in charge of all artillery onboard.
Gunner: - Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the ship's guns.
Bandit: (opportunistic roles, possibly less integrated) - Used derogatorily; might be involved in less sanctioned, opportunistic theft. Often used for those engaging in theft or robbery, typically in small, mobile groups.
Sentinel: (security and watch) - Guards responsible for keeping watch and ensuring security. A guard or watchman, especially one stationed to keep watch against surprise attacks.
Scout: (detailed intelligence gathering) - Gather detailed reconnaissance information. A person tasked with reconnaissance, gathering information about enemy positions and movements.
Squire: (training and support for knights and paladins) - Trainees and assistants to more experienced warriors. A young attendant to a knight, often in training to become a knight themselves.
Powder Monkey: - Usually young boys who carried gunpowder from the ship's hold to the guns.
Nomad: (exploration and scouting for new locations) - Members who move and scout new areas for resources or relocation. Members of a community without fixed habitation which regularly moves to and from the same areas.
